Important: Please let us know in your cover letter if you've floated before, and (whether or not you have) what you think is most interesting about it. (Previous float experience is nice but not required.)

Important: We are also hiring for a full-time Float Operator position. Please apply only to ONE of these two jobs.

We're looking for a part-time Float Assistant to start immediately.

FLOAT is a friendly, professional, welcoming and enthusiastic wellness environment. We provide flotation REST services to the public for stress management and personal spiritual exploration.

While the feeling we aim to evoke may be relaxed, we will expect professionalism and respect of clients and fellow staff members. We will let our staff and customers be who they are regardless of orientation, race, size or gender, and work hard to provide a comfortable and relaxing environment for everyone. We encourage diversity among our small staff, to better serve a wide range of clients.

Escape Pod (room 1)

Duties include: helping with preventative maintenance on our tanks and the center, cleaning, sanitizing and re-setting the float tanks between clients, maintaining the appearance of the facility (i.e. light but frequent cleaning), doing laundry, making appointments, working with our online scheduling system, orienting and educating clients, and answering the phone. Other duties as assigned.

The ideal qualified candidate will care strongly about cleanliness, be detail-oriented, enjoy serving the public, and have the ability to be on their feet for extended periods of time. Customer service experience, familiarity with the health and wellness industry, and/or CPR training are advantages.

Physical requirement: must be able to lift and carry 50 lbs up a flight of stairs (that's a bag of salt.)

Pay: $15/hour

Hours: 8–20 hr/wk, including Tuesdays (9:30 am through 3:30 pm) and one or two other days per week. Tuesday is fixed, but we will work with your schedule to determine other shifts.

Benefits: One hour paid time off per 25 hours worked (approximately 6 days per year).

Retirement IRA with matching contributions.

Floating for free is a perk of this job — and also a requirement! We understand that very few people here have actually floated before, and that is not expected of job candidates. But we want you to be able to talk to our customers about it, so we will make time for you to float at least once a month.

Probationary period of three months, to make sure it's a good fit for all of us.

The job is located at FLOAT, 515 Medford St, Somerville, MA 02145.
