What is float therapy?

You float in silence. That's it. That's the whole thing.

A float tank is a private room with a shallow pool of warm water saturated with 900 lbs of Epsom salt. You float effortlessly — no effort, no sound, no light. Just you.

Most people have never experienced true silence or real weightlessness. In 60 minutes, your nervous system gets more rest than a full night of sleep for some people.

No lightComplete darkness, or starlight if you prefer
No soundTotal acoustic isolation
No gravityYou float without effort — impossible to sink
No temperatureWater matches your skin — body disappears
No distractionsNo phone. No notifications. No demands.
Why we start you with three

The first float is the least impressive one

Here's the part nobody tells you. The first time in the tank, your nervous system is still on guard — sorting out the water, the silence, the dark. It can't fully let go yet, because it doesn't know what's coming.

It really does take about three floats for your nervous system to learn what to expect, your body to learn how to relax, and your mind to learn how to quiet down. The first float is your body learning the room. The third is the one people are actually chasing.

That's why we start you with three instead of one — so you reach the part that works, not just the part that's new.

What to expect

What your first float actually feels like

01

The first 10 minutes

Your mind is still busy. Your body hasn't let go yet. This is normal. Everyone goes through it. Just breathe.

02

Then it shifts

Somewhere in the middle, something releases. Your body stops bracing. Your thoughts slow down. This is the float.

03

The way out

Soft music brings you back. Most people emerge calm, clear, and lighter than when they went in. It stays with you.

From the owner

Float Boston is a place anyone should feel welcome

Most wellness centers try to be luxury. Granite counters, white walls, high-pressure sales staff. Not here.

I want Float Boston to be somewhere anyone can come and feel at home. A place where you can afford to take care of yourself without breaking the bank. A place to belong. A place my mom would have been proud that I owned.

Whether you're here for the first time or the hundredth, we're here for you.

Questions people ask before their first float

Why three floats instead of one?
Because the first float is rarely the one that sells people — your nervous system spends it just getting used to the water, the silence, and the dark. It takes about three before your body fully learns to let go and you reach the deep calm floating is known for. Starting with three (at $50 each instead of the usual $75) gets you there for less than the cost of two single floats.
Do I need to bring anything?
Nothing. We have towels, washcloths, soap, shampoo, hair dryers, lotion, and more. If you have specific toiletries you prefer, bring those — but you don't need a thing.
Do I need a bathing suit?
Nope. Your room is completely private. Most people float without one — but if you're more comfortable wearing one, that's absolutely fine.
Is the water clean?
Yes — rigorously. The high salt concentration alone prevents anything pathogenic from surviving. We also treat with UV light between every client and maintain hydrogen peroxide in the water at all times. The tank is fully filtered 3–4 times between each session.
Will I actually float? What if I'm claustrophobic?
You will absolutely float — Epsom salt makes it physically impossible not to. If you're concerned about claustrophobia, our XL Dream Pod has significantly more headroom and width, and our Summer Sky tanks have interior lighting you can control. Many people with claustrophobia float comfortably here.
