Important: Let us know in your cover letter if you've floated before, and (whether or not you have) what you think is most interesting about it. (Previous float experience is nice but not required.)
We're looking for two new Float Operators to start immediately.
As a float operator, you will facilitate flotation wellness services. Our clients look forward for days to their appointments; they go in their rooms tense and emerge relaxed and smiling.
FLOAT is a friendly, professional, welcoming and enthusiastic wellness environment. Since 2015, we have provided flotation REST services to the public for stress management and personal spiritual exploration.
While the feeling we aim to evoke may be relaxed, we will expect professionalism and respect of clients and fellow staff members. We will let our staff and customers be who they are regardless of orientation, race, size or gender, and work hard to provide a comfortable and relaxing environment for everyone. We encourage diversity among our small staff, to better serve a wide range of clients.
Duties include: making appointments, working with our online scheduling system, orienting and educating clients, cleaning, sanitizing and re-setting the float tanks between clients, daily tank testing and maintenance (we will train you on that), maintaining the appearance of the facility (i.e. light but frequent cleaning), doing laundry, responding to email and answering the phone. You will frequently supervise the center on your own. Other duties as assigned.
The ideal qualified candidate will have customer service experience, be familiar with the health and wellness industry, be detail-oriented, care strongly about cleanliness, communicate well by email, and have the ability to be on their feet for extended periods of time. We'd like you to be interested in and willing to learn about float therapy. CPR training is a plus.
Physical requirement: must be able to lift and carry 50 lbs up a flight of stairs (that's a bag of salt.)
Pay: $17.50/hour
Hours: 24–40 hr/wk. Please let us know in your application whether you prefer full or part time.
We typically run three overlapping shifts a day, one from 6:30a–3:30p, 10:30a–5:30p, and 4:30–11:30p. You must be available for either the early morning or late night shifts at least five days a week including weekends, though you will not always have to work them. (We are willing to be flexible around your schedule, and will never expect you to do closing and opening shifts back to back.)
Benefits: One hour paid time off per 25 worked (approximately 10 days per year, if working 40 hours/week).
Retirement IRA with matching contributions.
Floating for free is a perk of this job — and also a requirement! We understand that very few people here have actually floated before, and that is not expected of job candidates. But we want you to be able to talk to our customers about it, so we will make time for you to float at least once a month.
Details: Probationary period of three months, to make sure it's a good fit for all of us.
The job is located at FLOAT, 515 Medford St, Somerville, MA 02145.
